What is a corticosteroid injection?

Corticosteroid injections (also called cortisone or steroid injections) are a common and effective treatment option for various musculoskeletal conditions affecting the upper/lower limbs. These injections contain corticosteroid medications, which are powerful anti-inflammatory drugs that can help lower pain, swelling and inflammation in joints, bursae and tendons.

At Dragon Ultrasound, we use steroid injection therapy to treat pain in the wrist, elbow, shoulder, hip, knee and foot/ankle.

What’s included?

A 30-minute appointment with an HCPC-registered sonographer who is experienced in musculoskeletal ultrasound and performing ultrasound-guided steroid injections. The procedure will be discussed with you, along with any potential side-effects of the injection. An ultrasound scan will be performed to check for any pathology that may influence the procedure. The injection will then be performed under ultrasound guidance. Aftercare will be discussed and you will be asked to remain in the department for 20 minutes following the injection.
